Fear at Work

چکیده
This article aims at investigating how fear shapes everyday interactions between teachers and their ‘chiefs’ (primary school inspectors pedagogical advisers) in Benin. Drawing on a fifteen-month ethnography two districts of the country, largely focuses class visits inspections, considered as critical events for study ‘fear work’. These moments constitute contexts immediate encounters hierarchical authority have been subject multiple transformations normative recodifications partly led by international actors, particularly requiring important emotional work from chiefs. Through look back history relations chiefs since independence, I suggest that works an operating tool, enabling us to investigate notions legitimacy through which state is spoken performed.
